a message from our founder

No one ever will ever have to tell me, “Don’t forget where you came from.” I am grateful everyday for what I’ve overcome on my journey to become a mompreneur. It’s why I am so passionate about empowering other mompreneurs with the information and inspiration they need to build their dream businesses.

So, in April 2017 I started my first business. It was a subscription-based beauty products sampling service. It was so exciting, and the idea of a “beauty box” was still relatively new - especially for products for Black women. So I was somewhat of a pioneer.

Fast forward three months into my thriving new business, and I found out that I was pregnant. This was my first pregnancy. It was very hard trying to navigate the transition into motherhood while being a business owner at the same time.

I had little to no support. I felt so alone. I was trying to manage the demands of working full-time at a job I couldn’t wait to leave, running my start-up, and now preparing to welcome my baby. Long story short, it wasn’t long before the emotional AND financial toll became so overwhelming that I made a decision to just let my beauty box business go. That hurt. The thing is, I just didn’t know what else to do or who to even talk to about what to do.

I knew even then, that although I was letting the business go, I would never let go of my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur. Even during the mental overload of that season, I knew enough (and had hope enough) to know that it was important to keep my mind busy. I got on it with listening to podcasts, taking online business courses, binging leadership videos, and taking in anything to keep my mind elevated and focused on building my dream businesses, whether I was experiencing it fully or not.

Not long after becoming a mother, I picked up where I left off in entrepreneurship. A different business, and a different determination. This time I wasn’t doing it just for me. It was for the uncapped opportunity to leave a legacy to my child and to his children’s children. Part of this would include me helping other moms to do the same for their young families, too. This is the basis for the Become Mompreneur Summit.

I hosted the first Become Mompreneur Summit in January 2019. It was especially for millennial mompreneurs of color. These mompreneurs were looking to hear from somebody who not only had knowledge, but from someone who could relate to what it’s like to be a mama and a business owner.

I followed up in 2020, at a time where we all needed a boost, and the Become Mompreneur Summit reached even more mompreneurs. So much so that I launched our Become Mompreneur Tribe so that I could continue cultivating a vibrant community of millennial mompreneurs of color who don’t play when it comes to their kids or their goals!

Whenever I talk to dope mompreneurs like you, the conversation almost always turns to them seeking connection with like-minded women. I know you get it. And that’s why the Become Mompreneur Tribe matters so much. Not only does it give you connection to an amazing network of millennial mompreneurs of color, it gives you a higher level of accountability for doing what you say you’re going to do when it comes to building your business and also being fully present at home.
